About the Office

Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff serves as Harrison County's chief law enforcement officer, charged with policing the county and keeping the peace, including the power to make arrests. The Sheriff's duties also include serving court processes, acting as court bailiff, enforcing court orders, administering prisoner transportation, issuing concealed weapons permits, and collecting county taxes. Robert Matheny II currently serves as Sheriff and Treasurer, an elected position with a four-year term.

Access non-exempt public records held by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office under W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq.

Under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act (W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq.), members of the public may request access to non-exempt public records held by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. Agencies are required to respond to FOIA requests within five business days of receipt.
