About the Role
The General Maintenance Worker at Harrison County Parks and Recreation is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on Parks and Recreation facilities, including carpentry, painting, general plumbing, general electric, general heating and cooling, and maintenance/repairs on other building systems. This position also performs lawn care and landscaping for all Parks and Recreation properties. The incumbent should be confident prioritizing assigned work orders, documenting completed tasks, and coordinating with maintenance and management to reduce downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Grounds Maintenance: Performs seasonal weekly mowing, trimming, weeding, and edging for multiple properties
- Equipment Handling: Loads and safely secures equipment for transport; connects, attaches, and pulls transport trailers with loads
- Preventive Maintenance: Inspects assets according to preventive maintenance schedules and identifies unforeseen issues requiring repairs
- Repairs: Performs basic repairs not requiring specialized technicians — including painting, repairing fixtures, and fixing basic building system breakdowns
- Facilities Upkeep: Performs routine maintenance, snow removal, and assists with the general upkeep of facilities
- Supply Management: Tracks, orders, and restocks supplies needed for Operations and Maintenance
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid and unrestricted Driver's License
- Solid understanding of building utility systems and general maintenance methods
- Ability to properly and safely operate and maintain lawn care equipment (mowers, edgers, trimmers, etc.)
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and prioritize workloads critical to operations
- Experience working with common appliances, parts, and tools
- Familiarity with OSHA standards
- Must pass random drug testing
Preferred:
- Related work experience in facility maintenance or grounds care
- General knowledge of carpentry, repair, and building systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and crawl into small spaces
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds at one time
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (rain, heat, snow, ice)
